Yeh Nayan Dare Dare Hemant Kumar in Kohra

Title: Yeh Nayan Dare Dare Yeh Jaam Bhare Bhare ( The Legendary Hemant Kumar ) Kaifi Azmi, Kohraa 1964* HD

The movie Kohra has some wonderful behind-the-scenes stories, especially since it's an Indian adaptation of a classic English thriller.

Here are a few funny and fascinating facts about the film and its actors:

Facts About the Song "Yeh Nayan Dare Dare"

  • Upside Down Filming: The iconic song "Yeh Nayan Dare Dare" (the one you asked about) was a very tricky shot! It was filmed with Biswajeet and Waheeda Rehman sitting in one car, while the cameraman, Marshall Braganza, followed them in a separate running car. Braganza actually shot the scene with the camera mounted upside down to achieve the spectacular visuals of the winding road, which Biswajeet later said still leaves "technowhizs awestruck."

  • Keep a Straight Face: Biswajeet recalled that it was quite challenging for him and Waheeda, as they had to sit very close, not move too much, and look "madly in love" while dealing with the logistics of the moving camera rig.

Facts About the Movie and Actors

  • The Mystery Woman's True Identity: The entire plot of Kohra revolves around Raja Amit's (Biswajeet) glamorous first wife, Poonam, whose ghost haunts the new wife, Rajeshwari (Waheeda Rehman). The movie famously never shows Poonam's face, adding to her mystery. For decades, her identity was a secret, only to be revealed by Biswajeet many years later: the role of Poonam was played by a then relatively unknown Anglo-Indian actress named Thelma, who did only small supporting parts.

  • The Problem with Comparisons: Kohra is an adaptation of the famous Daphne du Maurier novel Rebecca. In the story, the second wife is constantly made to feel inferior and less beautiful than the first. However, many critics found it a fun contradiction that the filmmakers cast the breathtakingly beautiful Waheeda Rehman as the "timid" and "less attractive" second wife, making it impossible to believe that any woman (even a ghost) could be more beautiful than her!

  • The Famous White Room: The famous all-white suite of the deceased first wife, Poonam, which is kept as a shrine by the housekeeper Dai Maa (Lalita Pawar), was an elaborate set built at the Rajkamal Kalamandir studio. The set was so spectacular and innovative for its time that top Bollywood producers and directors would often visit the studio just to walk around and marvel at the set design.

  • Hemant Kumar's Double Role: Hemant Kumar, the legendary voice behind the famous song, was not just the singer and music director, he was also the producer of the film! He gave the film its haunting musical score, alongside producing the entire suspense-thriller.

Aap Ke Haseen Rukh Pe

"Aap Ke Haseen Rukh Pe Aaj Naya Noor Hai" is one of the most melodious and romantic songs in Hindi cinema history.

It comes from the 1966 film 'Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi' and has some very dramatic and interesting trivia associated with it, especially concerning the film's original producer and director, Guru Dutt.

Funny and Fascinating Facts

The making of this film, and the story behind the song's title, is one of Bollywood's most famous pieces of trivia:

1. The Title Was Inspired by a Tragedy

The film's producer was the legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt. Tragically, he passed away suddenly on October 10, 1964, before the movie was completed.

  • The Shocking Moment: When composer O. P. Nayyar was told about Guru Dutt's death, he rushed to his apartment. Seeing Dutt's famously troubled face finally at peace, Nayyar was reportedly struck by the title of the song he had just composed: "Aap Ke Haseen Rukh Pe Aaj Naya Noor Hai" (There is a new radiance on your beautiful face today). He felt the words were a surreal and haunting commentary on the late director's peaceful countenance in death.

2. Dharmendra Replaced the Legend

  • Guru Dutt had originally planned to star in and direct the film himself.

  • After his death, the remaining crew—including writer Abrar Alvi and Guru Dutt's brother Atmaram—were determined to finish the film as a tribute.

  • Dharmendra stepped in to play the lead role (Jeetendra Gupta), replacing Guru Dutt, and many scenes had to be reshot. The final version is considered an unfinished tragedy of the Guru Dutt team.

3. The Song that Became Two Hits

  • The original composer chosen for the film was S. D. Burman. He even composed and recorded a tune for the title track "Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi."

  • However, due to his ill health (he suffered a heart attack), O. P. Nayyar replaced him.

  • The Funny Twist: S. D. Burman later reused his unused tune from Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi with new lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri, and it became the immensely popular Kishore Kumar song, "Yeh Dil Na Hota Bechara" from the film Jewel Thief (1967)! So, two legendary hit songs owe their creation to this one film!

4. The Song for Two Heroines

The song is famous for its placement in the film: Dharmendra's character is expressing his feelings, but he is in a love triangle. He is seen singing this beautiful romantic number to both Mala Sinha and Tanuja, leaving the audience (and the characters) guessing which of the two sisters he is actually praising!

It turns out that the famous "Fingerprint Building" you're likely thinking of is not a real, physical building in Thailand. It's a striking piece of digital architectural art created for an advertising campaign.

Here are the details and the story behind the image:

💡 The Truth About the "Fingerprint Building"

  • It is Digital Art: The structure, which resembles the distinct whorls of a human fingerprint, was a CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) concept.

  • Purpose: It was part of an award-winning print advertisement campaign created by the ad agency SpicyH, based in Bangkok, Thailand.

  • The Client: The ad campaign was for a Thai company called It Works, which specializes in fingerprint security systems and biometric technology. The concept was to visually represent the complexity and uniqueness of their security technology by making a building out of a fingerprint.

  • The Series: The agency created a series of three similar images, depicting a Home, an Office, and a Lab, all with fingerprint-like architectural details.

So, while the image of the "Fingerprint Building" is widely shared online and is often misidentified as a real place, it's actually a testament to creative Thai graphic design and advertising!
