Mint Marks on Indian Coins
This information is absolutely correct and very interesting! This is a fascinating fact about Indian Coins that very few people know.
This symbol is called the Mint Mark. This mark indicates which government mint produced the coin.
The Government of India currently has four active mints that strike coins, and each coin produced by these mints bears a specific mark:
| Serial No. | Mint City | Mint Mark | Identification / Example |
| 1. | Mumbai | Diamond | Underneath the year of issue, there is a diamond \large \diamond shaped mark. |
| 2. | Hyderabad | Star | Underneath the year, there is a star \large \star shaped mark. |
| 3. | Noida/Delhi | Dot/Small Circle | Underneath the year, there is a small dot \large \bullet or circular mark. (Technically, this mint is located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, but it falls under the Delhi region.) |
| 4. | Kolkata | No Mark | There is no mark beneath the year. It is left blank. |
